They played surveillance tapes of the brothers referring to Logan in racial slurs and a voicemail that Dennis Mahon left at the diversity office just months before the bombing in which he angrily said: “The white Aryan resistance is growing in Scottsdale. There’s a few white people who are standing up.”
Defense attorneys said that someone working for the city of Scottsdale was a likelier candidate because Logan’s job made him unpopular. They also heavily criticized the use of 41-year-old Rebecca Williams as an informant, giving her the “trailer park Mata Hari” nickname — a reference to the Dutch exotic dancer who was convicted of working as a spy for Germany during World War I.
Investigators recruited the former stripper to act like a government separatist and racist. She wore revealing clothes and sent racy photos to the brothers to win their trust.

They played racist voice-mail messages that Dennis Mahon left for an undercover informant in which he called Logan a racial slur. In another audio recording, Daniel Mahon is heard yelling the same racial slur out the window of a truck as the brothers and informant are driving near Logan’s former office.
“Racism isn’t a crime,” defense attorney Deborah Williams told jurors in her closing statements Tuesday. She speculated that the pipe bomb was the inside job of a city employee, upset with Logan and his role as diversity director.
The brothers were arrested in June 2009 on their Davis Junction, Ill., farm, where they lived with their parents. The arrests came after a 5-year investigation in which federal authorities hired a younger woman to befriend the Mahons and gather evidence against them.
Defense attorneys urged jurors to examine the testimony of a confidential informant, Rebecca Williams, a former stripper hired by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Williams met the brothers in January 2005 after investigators set her up in a government-provided trailer at a campground in Catoosa, Okla., where the brothers were staying at the time. A Confederate flag was placed in her window, and prosecutors say the Mahons introduced themselves within minutes of her arrival.

Mahon’s attorney said that as a former stripper, Williams knew how to work men, and that she successfully worked investigators for money and the Mahons for information, “like she once worked a pole.”

‘Trailer park Mata Hari’ key to case

PHOENIX — She has been dubbed the “trailer park Mata Hari,” an attractive ex-stripper recruited by the feds to befriend identical twin brothers accused of a white-supremacist bombing and to get them to admit to the crime.
She moved into the same Oklahoma campground, dressed provocatively, used racial slurs and talked like a separatist.
And she won the brothers’ confidence over a five-year period in part by sending them racy photos of herself, including a shot from behind of her in a Confederate-flag bikini bottom.
As the trial of the 61-year-old brothers winds down in federal court, defense attorneys are arguing that the government’s conduct was outrageous and that the informant’s actions amounted to sexual entrapment.

Defense attorneys, in their closing statements, continued to stress that the pipe bomb was not the work of the brothers but an inside job of a city employee, upset with Logan and his role as diversity director.
The Mahons acknowledge being unapologetic racists, but defense attorney Deborah Williams reminded jurors that “racism isn’t a crime,” and that prosecutors tried to “build a fire out of smoke.”
“I said (Dennis is) an aging, disenfranchised White guy who craves attention,” Williams said. “He’s a loudmouth, seeks attention, drinks a lot, talks a lot of crap.”
