… AP) NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Talk about Republican Sen. David Vitter’s worst political nightmare – a surprise challenger with all the right conservative credentials and none of the baggage of the incumbent’s prostitution scandal. Chet Traylor, the first Republican elected to Louisiana’s Supreme Court since Reconstruction, made a last-minute decision to take on Vitter after a fresh scandal for the first-term lawmaker: An aide had remained on Vitter’s payroll after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a knife-wielding incident with an ex-girlfriend. … The incumbent has responded to Traylor’s entry into the race in much the same way he handled the prostitution scandal, by keeping quiet about it. His campaign declined to comment for this story. In 2007, Vitter would confess only to a “serious sin” after his phone number turned up among records for a Washington prostitution ring. He tersely denied later accusations that he was a customer of New Orleans prostitutes and again declined to answer questions.

No team has yet to sign him as a free agent, and the polarizing receiver worries they’re swayed by the perception he’s a troublemaker. A perception he believes he disproved with his agreeable behaviour in Buffalo during a disappointing season last year. … No matter what I thought coming in, I came out feeling this was a pretty amazing piece of work, jaw-dropping but dimensional. It is going to get a lot of attention, but it is not some cheap stunt where they said, ‘Let’s do some wild stuff and film it.’ It is extreme behaviour but really good filmmaking as well. Frankly, some of the behaviour is very extreme. But it is in the context of the insanity of being in Joaquin’s life for that period of time. It is a unique piece of work that is going to surprise people in different ways.” The film is said to include a scene in which Phoenix snorts cocaine off a prostitute’s breast, massive amounts of male frontal nudity, and a man defecating on Phoenix.

Back in October of 2008, the actor announced his retirement from acting. Now, he is developing his hip-hop career and is being managed by P. Diddy.

And while we can only hope to be on beard-watch while skulking around Yorkville this September, Reuters reports that it’s “undetermined” whether Phoenix will have any part in the promotion of the film — I mean, what with his bustling hip-hop career and what-not. That said, it sounds like the hope is I’m Still Here will sell itself. Magnolia’s Eamonn Bowles shilled the movie to Deadline Hollywood by saying: “It is going to get a lot of attention, but it is not some cheap stunt where they said, ‘Let’s do some wild stuff and film it.’ It is extreme behavior but really good filmmaking as well.” But all we care about is this more illustrative bit of intel (a good sell is all about showing, not telling, kids). According to one of Deadline’s sources, who saw a preview screening of the movie, the non-mockumentary includes a scene where “Phoenix is seen snorting coke of the breast of a prostitute.”

Affleck, who is married to Phoenix’s sister Summer, has been filming his brother-in-law since 2008, and in May this year, showed the film to Magnolia Pictures, who also distributed Phoenix’s last film, Two Lovers, reports Deadline. After viewing the film, in which Phoenix is seen snorting cocaine off the breast of a prostitute, Eamonn Bowles, president of Magnolia said: “No matter what I thought coming in, I came out feeling this was a pretty amazing piece of work, jaw-dropping but dimensional. Remember when Joaquin Phoenix grew a beard, shunned the limelight and declared he was quitting acting to become a rapper? Casey Affleck sure hopes you do: the acting and budding director is set to release a documentary about Phoenix – featuring plenty of sex, drugs and full-frontal nudity – in September. Affleck, who is married to Joaquin’s sister Summer Phoenix, made his directing debut with the documentary “I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix“, which chronicles the time in 2008 when his brother-in-law was an “artist at a crossroads”. Today, Magnolia Pictures bought the rights to the finished product. After a private viewing of the documentary two months ago, a Los Angeles Times reporter said the film “[included] more male frontal nudity than you’d find in some gay porn films.” The reviewer also said, “[He was] snorting cocaine, ordering call girls, having oral sex with a publicist, treating his assistants abusively and rapping badly.”

Joaquin Phoenix, an Academy Award-nominated actor, quit his acting career in 2008 to pursue a career in music, particularly rapping. There was much speculation as to whether this was a publicity stunt or not because Phoenix had hired director Casey Affleck to record footage of him for a documentary. This footage was assembled into I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix, which was shown at a private screening in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Times said that the film featured Phoenix, “snorting cocaine, ordering call girls, having oral sex with a publicist, treating his assistants abusively and rapping badly.” Magnolia Pictures has picked up this documentary for a limited September 10 release, with a wider release to follow. Magnolia’s president, Eamonn Bowles, loved the documentary despite the fact that the L.A. Times said that it featured “more male frontal nudity than you’d find in some gay porn films.”
