It was a curious woman walking her dog near Albuquerque’s West Mesa who first saw a bone sticking out of the dirt back in February 2009, according to APD Deputy Chief Paul Feist.
“When we went out there the first time we thought, though tragic, it was a regular call,” said Feist, who worked on the case when police first opened it.
After APD determined the bone was human, police dug and dug through the dirt weeks and weeks.
What looked more like an archeological dig than a crime scene eventually turned up the remains of 11 women and an unborn fetus.
The movie-like plot unfolded in the months and years that followed.
Police said one person targeted and killed the young women in their teens and 220s sometime between 2001 and 2006. All the women had a similar story.
“They were in trouble with narcotics or prostitution,” Feist said.

Rupert: “One thing I’ve noticed is that every time we’ve gone back to filming, in the art department they have pictures of Se7en, which is exactly that thing of cop show meets the horror genre. I think Phil’s right. I missed the horror that we had in the second [series]. I’m glad it’s back now. It’s this very gothic feeling that we get which is, I think, what makes Whitechapel special and different.”
There are some gory moments in the show – are any of you squeamish?
Rupert: “The first series we did was kind of horrible because the poor girls who were playing the prostitutes who were being murdered were having to lie on the floor with real offal on their bodies, so that was horrible. But this time round it’s all fake – there’s no real livers and things around! There’s a severed foot at one point which was pretty disgusting.”

PHOENIX — It’s the worst of the worst in one of the Valley’s toughest neighborhoods. For years, drug use and prostitution have brought down property values and made the communities extremely dangerous.
Just because the criminals overtake homes, turning them into magnets for illegal activity, it doesn’t mean the neighbors have to put up with it.
There’s never a dull moment patrolling the South Mountain Precinct. For more than a decade, Detective Lance Hunt with the Phoenix Police Department has been trying to turn around the many neighborhoods plagued with prostitution and drug use in South Phoenix.
Hunt believes at the core of the problem isn’t necessarily the criminals but the properties used for illegal activity.

These photos are of a location to be used for a scene set in 1905. The location is to be known as a brothel, and HBO Watch had the details about the reason for this flashback. The site said the following:
For this season there has been speculation that Pam, Eric Northmen’s friend and confidant, will have her origin story explored. Alan Ball, lead writer on the True Blood team is looking for new cast members in particular. A non-threatening man in his 30s and a prostitute oddly named “Washcloth Helen.” Both of these characters will be introduced to fans during a flashback to a San Francisco brothel in 1905. The date is significant because 1905 is supposedly the date where Pam becomes a Vampire according to author Charlaine Harris.

Authorities have said nearly all the dead women worked as prostitutes before they disappeared between 2003 to early 2005.
The victims include Jamie Barela, a 15-year-old who was last seen by family in 2004. Buried with her were Syllannia Edwards, 15, a runaway from Lawton, Okla., and Michelle Valdez, 22, along with her unborn child.
Their bodies were found in 2009 after a woman and her dog found a large bone protruding from the dirt. They are called the “West Mesa murders” because of where the bodies were buried on the west side of Albuquerque.
In 2010, FBI agents and Albuquerque police officers searched two homes and at least one business owned by a health food store owner and travel photographer from Joplin, Mo. Police also questioned men who hired prostitutes and were prone to violence.
