Vanessa Griego, a 24-year-old inmate, was confined to a similar cage at Perryville for 20 hours last year after refusing to return to her cell. She did not require medical attention, although the incident alarmed staff members and fellow inmates.
“Waiting out” prisoners meant corrections officers did not have to use force to return inmates to their cells. But it also meant inmates were regularly left outdoors for longer than the two-hour maximum dictated by prison policy.
The practice was discontinued as part of a series of reforms initiated in the wake of Powell’s death.
Powell, who was serving a sentence for prostitution, said she felt suicidal at 11 a.m. on May 19. She was taken to the outdoor cage to await transportation for psychiatric care at the prison complex detention unit.

The county medical examiner found the cause of death to be due to complications from heat exposure. Her core body temperature upon examination was 108 degrees Fahrenheit. She suffered burns and blisters all over her body.
Witnesses say she was repeatedly denied water by corrections officers, though the c.o.’s deny this. The weather the day she collapsed from the heat (May 19 — she died in the early morning hours of May 20) arched just above a 107 degree high.
According to a 3,000 page report released by the ADC, she pleaded to be taken back inside, but was ignored. Similarly, she was not allowed to use the restroom. When she was found unconscious, her body was covered with excrement from soiling herself.
Powell, who was serving a 27-month sentence for prostitution, actually expired after being transported to West Valley Hospital, where acting ADC Director Charles Ryan made the decision to have her life support suspended.

Months before its release, “I’m Still Here” was already generating a healthy amount of buzz. The documentary/mockumentary, out next month, of course has director Casey Affleck filming Joaquin Phoenix as the actor tries to launch a career as a rapper and engages in some very bad behavior.
As we reported
in June, the movie apparently contains some pretty out-there stuff:  Phoenix “snorting cocaine, ordering call girls, having oral sex with a publicist, treating his assistants abusively and rapping badly.”
But Phoenix — who only five years ago earned an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Johnny Cash in “Walk the Line” — can’t be serious, right? The whole thing has to be a joke, some kind of social experiment aimed at making a statement about the malleable nature of celebrity.

This election cycle conservatives are intoxicated with immigrant bashing, particularly pregnant immigrant women and their children. Their tactic: change the U.S. Constitution to deny citizenship to babies born in this country to undocumented women. This is a cynical strategy that explicitly targets Latino communities—the fastest-growing segment of the electorate. These desperate politicians would rather get rid of these new voters than do the hard work of cultivating them. In their quest for power they will do or say anything to get elected.
This is also an ugly strategy fueled by sexism and racism. It taps into a long history of population control—government efforts to curb growth among disfavored populations. During slavery, the children slaveowners sired with their slaves were deemed slaves themselves who could be sold as chattel, thereby increasing the wealth of the owner rather than the size of his family. Chinese women in the 1800s were labeled prostitutes and denied visas to join their husbands who labored on our railroads. And black women, Native American women, and Latinas were routinely sterilized either without their knowledge or without their consent as recently as the 1970s.

Then the actor hit David Letterman looking even more of a mess and in an infamously awkward interview, revealed he was breaking into the rap biz.
Brother-in-law Casey Affleck has been recording Phoenix’s alleged efforts to become a rap star and with his film I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix finally set to debut at the Venice Film Festival next month, many are crying hoax, while others are simply tagging the effort a mockumentary.
After a recent screening of the film for potential buyers, an LA Times source revealed that the film features the Oscar nominee “snorting cocaine, ordering call girls, having oral sex with a publicist, treating his assistants abusively and rapping badly” and offers “more male full frontal nudity than a gay porn movie.” And that’s not even the worst of it!

… Is it real? Is it really real? The first teaser for Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck’s ‘documentary’ has arrived and you can now commence uninformed arguments with your friends. [HuffPo] ● Rooney Mara scored the coveted spot of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Instantly, she is famous. [EW] ● A photo of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson kissing is like a shot of Sasquatch — blurry, underwhelming and maybe, probably bogus. [Celebuzz]
● The realest of the New Jersey Housewives, Danielle Staub—she of fake lesbian relationship and “prostitution whore!” fame—was asked to leave the show, probably because she’s making everyone really sad. [PopEater]
● Motorcycle man and fan of mistresses Jesse James might be dating tattoo-girl Kat Von D or they just spend a lot of time showing each other their break-up ink. [People]

… HMG) – So was it all a stunt or did Joaquin Phoenix really kind of go off his rocker? The movie trailer for I’m Still Here, by director Casey Affleck (who happens to be Phoenix’s brother-in-law), chronicles the now-retired star’s bizarre behavior, in a variety of situations, as he spends most of 2008 attempting to jump-start a hip hop career. Beside the infamous space cadet act on the Late Show with David Letterman, according to buyers who have seen the film, Phoenix is also seen snorting lots of cocaine, ordering call girls, having oral sex with a publicist, treating his assistants abusively beside rapping badly. In June, the project landed a distribution deal with Magnolia Pictures and will arrive in theaters nationwide Sept. 10. I guess were all supposed to decide if this was all a prank or not. I am expecting this film to be a total flop, what do you think?

Police: House Of Prostitution Found In Phoenix Neighborhood

Police said in July, Ferrell recruited a female undercover officer who he thought was a prostitute. He coached her to ask, “are you the police,” and told her to charge $100-140 for appointments at Ferrell’s home, and up to $240 if she met the “John” elsewhere, according to court records.

CBS 5 News contacted Ferrell at his home. Ferrell denied being involved in prostitution, and quickly shut the door.
A grand jury has indicted Ferrell on more than a dozen counts, including pandering, illegal enterprise and operating or maintaining a house of prostitution.

The first trailer and theatrical poster for Casey Affleck’s chronicle of brother-in-law Joaquin Phoenix’s supposed retirement from acting to pursue a career in hip hop, titled
‘I’m Still Here’
has hit the web. The film is being pitched as a mockumentary and reportedly shows Phoenix “snorting cocaine, ordering call girls, having oral sex with a publicist, treating his assistants abusively and rapping badly.” Sounds interesting to say the very least.

Conservative radio talk shows and FOX cable television hosts have had the enemies of our Republic on the ropes lately and paranoia is definitely alive and well on the left. They are beginning to blame and snipe at each other. The one thing I failed to mention in my last article is that the liberal talk show host out of the San Francisco is also calling for the resignation of what he considers the worst presidential press secretary ever – Robert Gibbs.
Shortly after Obama was elected, Andrew Breitbart and his two young assistants exposed how Obama’s community organizing group called ACORN could be used for an alleged prostitution business. And now Breitbart can be credited for releasing a taped snippet of Sherrod addressing the NAACP that caused a firestorm in the Obama administration and her immediate firing from the Department of Agriculture. Thanks to another research friend, I have received additional information about Shirley Sherrod that the mainline media prefers to ignore.
