Phoenix Strip Clubs: 2 Arizonans in Missouri murder-suicide

Police found Mesa resident Richard Carrube’s body, along with that of his 31-year-old co-worker Joshua Adams, in front of Adams’ grandfather’s Cape Girardeau home early Friday morning. Investigators believe Adams shot Carrube after an argument before the turning the gun on himself.
Carrube’s family plans to fly him back to Arizona to be cremated after his body is released. His father, Dan, said “times are tough at the moment,” since they just buried Dan’s brother.
The family has set up a Chase Bank account, No. 3026258107, for contributions.
Dan Carrube said Adams and his son were on their way to Indiana as part of a six-week trip to sell ADT alarm systems. They were planning to stay at Adams’ grandfather’s house instead of a hotel, he said.
“From what we gather from other sources, (the incident that led to the shooting) was something involving money and a strip club,” he said.

Alcohol sales suspended at Kearny Mesa strip club after undercover sting

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – State regulators suspended alcohol sales at a Kearny Mesa nude-entertainment club for 30 days starting Thursday due to alleged violations, including on-site drug-dealing and lewd conduct by dancers.
The disciplinary actions against Pure Platinum in the 4000 block of Kearny Mesa Road stemmed from a three-week undercover operation in January 2009, according to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
The business has been fighting the suspension order for the last three years, taking its appeal all the way to the state Supreme Court, which denied it late last month, ABC spokeswoman Jennifer Hill said.
During the investigation, plainclothes agents posing as patrons observed at least three nude dancers engaging in prohibited behavior, including touching of customers and simulated sex acts, according to Hill.

A similar dilemma faces Sal Mistretta, who plays Grahame Chandler. Grahame is the deceased senator’s older brother. He is far more intelligent and driven than his brother, but a bout with polio left him disabled. So he is relegated to managing his brother’s career. Mistretta is great at conveying Grahame’s frustration and envy.
William T. Lewis is wonderfully smarmy as the departed Reed Chandler.
Adam Simmons plays the dupe, Cal. While Simmons does his best with the wide-eyed, not-too-bright Chandler scion, his character isn’t that interesting. Yes, Dempsey tries to give him an arc of sorts, but there is really not that much growth to the character.
Melanie Fernandez plays Tina, Cal’s mistress. Tina is a stripper and drug addict who eventually turns Cal on to heroin. Fernandez is nice to look at and has a pretty voice, but her Tina lacks charisma and power.

SAN DIEGO — State regulators suspended alcohol sales at a Kearny Mesa strip club for 30 days starting Thursday due to alleged violations, including on-site drug-dealing and lewd conduct by dancers.
The disciplinary actions against Pure Platinum in the 4000 block of Kearny Mesa Road stemmed from a three-week undercover investigation, according to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
During the operation, plainclothes agents observed several alleged administrative violations involving nude dancers’ conduct, as well as “the purchase, negotiations for purchase and furnishing” of psilocybin, commonly known as hallucinogenic mushrooms, and cocaine, ABC spokeswoman Jennifer Hill said.

The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control will suspend the alcoholic-beverage license of Pure Platinum strip club in Kearny Mesa for violations including the sale and possession of illegal drugs and lewd conduct by dancers, the state agency said Wednesday.
Details about the violations will be released Thursday, department spokesman John Carr said.
A news advisory sent by ABC District Administrator Jennifer Hill on Wednesday said a notice of suspension will be posted at the business on Kearny Mesa Road on Thursday morning.
A man who answered the phone at the business Wednesday night said the management had no comment.
In June 2011, the state suspended the alcoholic-beverage license of the Pure Platinum club on Pacific Highway at Laurel Street.
A state accusation against the airport-area business listed 34 violations, including the allegation that on-duty employees sold or negotiated the sale of cocaine to undercover officers. Some of the violations were for lewd conduct, which can include a dancer’s distance from a customer or patrons inappropriately touching dancers.

Election years are always great for political theater, and this year’s presidential election makes “The Fix,” a rock musical about the grooming of a novice young politician for the ultimate political prize, especially timely and relevant.
International City Theatre has the distinction of offering the 1997 show’s West Coast premiere. Perhaps one reason other theater companies haven’t staged the show sooner is that John Dempsey’s book exhibits glaring flaws, including the use of characters and concepts that seem recycled from dozens of other filmed, staged and literary stories.
On the night of his first major political victory, young Cal Chandler (Adam Simmons) winds up in a seamy bar, where he meets Tina McCoy (Melanie Fernandez), a stripper and drug addict.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect out of the Clubhouse, but I was fully prepared to be let down, honestly. I imagined the possibility of cheesy decor and seedy ambiance, like most strip clubs I’ve been to. But my surprise led to one conclusion: We need more strip clubs in Arizona owned by musicians. Oh yeah, and new booze laws. But that’s a whole other topic I’ll leave to the news section of the Phoenix New Times.

Agreed! Something like this would be cool. I suppose Shotgun Bettys in Scottsdale would be the closest thing to a Rock Strip Club. The BYOB thing is different too, never heard of that. I enjoy a good gay strip club myself. What I don’t enjoy is the fact that if there is full nudity, there can’t be alcohol served and you can’t BYOB. Could someone please explain to me why alcohol is allowed when a cute guy is wearing a g-string, but not even if he is totally naked? One would think Arizona would like the extra tax revenue.
