Local ACORN Leader Defends Group

PHOENIX — From New York to California, ACORN workers have been videotaped telling undercover amateur filmmakers posing as a pimp and prostitute how to evade tax laws and set up brother for an underage prostitution ring.
“I was absolutely appalled. That is not what he stand for. That is not what we do. That is not what we believe in, Carmen Arias said.
Arias serves on the board of directors for ACORNs Arizona offices and has worked for the community organizing groups for seven years.
“We’ve worked very hard to be respected for the work that we do and regretfully, this is going to be a step backwards, she said.
The controversy involving the videos has already caused damage to ACORN.
