… When my daughter called and said it was on the news, it gave me a sense of hope,” he said.  “And I thought, yes, yes maybe this is the final piece to the puzzle. Maybe this is something that the families of both the identified and the missing can have something to put their teeth into and hold onto.”
Michelle Valdez, then 26, was last seen alive September 2004. She had told her sister she was going to California. Her father reported her missing in February 2005.
Jane Perea, who lost her 15-year-old daughter Jamie Barela, had a message for whoever the killer may be.
“If we don’t get you, you’ll pay with God because you took a very big part of us away, part of my life I’ll never get back.  She was only 15.  She never hurt nobody ever,” said Perea.
Albuquerque police Chief Ray Schultz had said that his department was investigating men who hired prostitutes and were prone to violence.  He had said the killer was mostly likely a man who acted alone, but would not elaborate.
